I've been annoyed by the Apple DVD Player,for quite a while: When watching DVDs, the sound volume seems to change constantly. It's not very obvious for most movies, but when watching music DVDs, it affects the sound very strongly. For some DVDs, it was not just the volume, but the whole sound that was affected.
After the last DVD night, I was so annoyed that I went to search for a solution again. And this time, using the right search terms, I found the answer: The Apple DVD player implements the "Dolby Dynamic Range Control (DRC)" (technically a sort of auto-compression) that dynamically adjusts the volume. It's very easy to solve to problem: After stopping the DVD, the DRC feature can be deactivated in the DVD player settings.
Et voilà - now nothing should get in the way of enjoying music DVDs on Mac OS X.
das problem am ausgeschalteten compressor bei dvd playern ist, dass spielfilme dann wieder nervig sind, weil man (grade wenn man sie im englischen original schauen will) die lautstärke sehr weit aufdrehen muss, damit man die sprache versteht, die drüber gesampelten effekte und musik sind jedoch teils so laut, dass sie einem dann (je nach anlage) die ohren weg hauen.
daher haben eigentlich so gut wie alle dvdplayer n compressor drauf, das der jedoch so krass eingestellt ist bei apple dass er den klang richtig mies macht, is erstaunlich.

Dass das für manche Filme oder Serien nicht so optimal ist, habe ich mittlerweile auch bemerkt. Zur Not schalte ich es halt kurz um...
Gerade bei Musik-DVDs will ich aber keinen Kompressor mehr drauf - weder einen guten noch einen schlechten. Der EQ der Stereoanlage steht bei mir auch auf "Durchzug", da bin ich Purist :-).
kommt auf die qualität der anlage und boxen an, aber ja kann ich verstehen :D
