Reading material: Online bass magazines

Working on your instrument and listening to good music can be very inspiring for your development as a musician - but reading interviews, reports on other bassists etc. can be very helpful as well. That's why today I want to introduce some - hopefully inspiring - reading material for bassists.

The bi-monthly Bass Musician Magazine features an interesting mix of interviews, little hints, exercises and reviews that you can browse on their website for free. The diversity of articles seems to be a result of the high number of contributors, featuring (on an irregular basis) e.g. Bill Bartolini, Adam Nitti, Lukas Pickford, Nathan East and Gary Willis.

In contrast to that, Bass Gear Mag strives to be more of a traditional magazine, which clearly is reflected in the design as well. A (free) subscription allows you to browse the current issue page by page, and you can also buy a PDF version.

Global Bass was an ambitious project that issued a bi-monthly online magazine from 2000 to 2002, rather similar to bass musician magazine (which did not exist at the time). The complete archives are still available on the website and are a worthy read.

The european Bass Magazine seems to be a new contender on the market. It strives to focus more on bassists and events in Europe.

I hope you'll find some interesting material out there and am curious to see what you will do with it.

Vielen Dank für die Zusammenstellung! Das freut den Tieftöner!

Gern geschehen - viel Vergnügen beim Stöbern! :-)
