New sequencing software: Propellerheads Record

After a bit of a mystery making (inclusive of a mysterious countdown on their home page), Propellerheads yesterday announced their new music production platform Record.

The music production market seems to be well covered with Logic, Cakewalk, Cubase, and ProTools. However, it seems Propellerheads see a market for a software that's easy to use and lets you record and produce songs quickly - because that is what they promise for Record. The newer versions of Logic and Cubase seemed to try to gain market share with adding more and more functionality and integrating more and more plugins, even though to be fair, Apple also made serious efforts to improve usability with Logic 7 and 8.

But it's interesting to see a counter-movement now: A while ago, Presonus also announced their own music production software, to be called PreSonus Studio One. Maybe they read Jörn's blog rant about music software (in German)?

Propellerheads Record should be available in September, for about €300. Reason instruments of course can be used in Record as well. More information can be found on the Propellerheads site.
