iZotope has an excellent reputation as a plugin company. Ozone for example is an innovative suite of mastering plugins.

However, their free Vinyl plugin serves a completely different purpose: It adds that magical cracking and klicking to your audio signal we've all heard from old turntables.

Vinyl surely isn't a plugin you should use every day, but once you need it, it's good to have. Especially since Vinyl has a lot of nice little details: You can configure the mechanical wear, dust on the record and age of the turntable exactly liek you want it.

Hint: On Israel & New Breed's album "Real" (which I find to be one of the best-produced albums ever, not surprising given it's produced by Tommy Sims), a vinyl effect is used at the beginning and end of the album rather nicely.
